I had been a customer of another barber shop in town (small town, you probably know it), and am grateful to have found Todd's last year. At the other shop, I received good service but never felt like they nailed the style since I didn't know what I wanted. Turns out, my scalp has two conflicting cowlicks that are difficult for stylists to work with, and Todd was the first to tell me this. On my first appointment, Todd taught me about my face shape and gave me some style vocabulary I was missing. I've been increasingly satisfied with my cuts now that I know how to ask. "Bald fade crew cut, blend the back and sides but leave the top a little long. Whitewall the ears." Couple tips-- If you're tying to find your style, book the unisex custom and ask Todd which styles he recommends for your face/skull shape. Remember that appointments are on a fixed schedule, so be prepared to commit to something. I've tried a few styles that I didn't feel fully suited me, and learned something each time. Ask Todd about something interesting and see where the conversation goes. Not only is Todd a skilled barber, he is also a master conversationalist. I've talked about the pros and cons of keto diet, the origins of modern bread making yeast, flying FPV drones, the Darwinian evolution of our species, and more. Don't be shy to start a random conversation while Todd is in his groove. I always come away with something valuable. If you need a specific time, book in advance. Appointments tend to fill up back-to-back and it can be tricky to get one if your schedule only has a few windows during the week. The positive thing is that you get to interact with the other people booked ahead/after you. Good atmosphere with the other guys in the shop. It's worth noting that last year I booked a cut for my 14yo brother and dropped him off while I ran errands. Todd wouldn't work without an adult present, so he politely had my brother wait instead. It was inconvenient but shows Todd's commitment to safety and satisfaction. My mistake. Todd is a great barber. He gives great haircuts and tells great stories. What more do you need in a barber?

I just found my permanent barber! He gave me a great men’s haircut. He also offers washing your hair which was great to get rid of the loose hair. And he will do a 5-min neck massage. He has special training for that too, so I got a solid neck and top of shoulder massage. He also uses a short-term appointment system. You go to his website and it shows next opening. I got an appointment in 45 mins. So you can still get haircuts without planning it out days in advance but don’t risk of being a walk-in and having a long line. It’s the best of both worlds.

I’ve been going to Todd the Barber for a few months now. As others have said, “quality cuts, affordable price, and interesting conversation.” The first time I got my hair cut, he did a quick and informative assessment of my head. I talked about the problem I have with my hair sticking out on the sides and Todd explained the different parts of my skull why my hair problem was particular to the shape of my skull. Then, he gave me some options to choose from in handling it. We decided to go shorter than I have been getting it cut, and that’s been working out nicely. Todd the Barber will tell you that he’s usually busy, and there’s a good reason for it: he’s efficient, and he does good work. My haircut stays under the 15 minute mark and yet I always feel like I’ve learned something new or interesting in our conversation. He has some great life stories to share if you’re interested, though it’s usually because I’m asking about something hanging on his wall, or a picture frame on his table. There’s plenty of parking behind the building, and and also an easy walk from Main / State St.

Extremely grateful to Todd for always being available for me with quick appointment times and his many years of expertise! Montpelier is very lucky to have an experienced city barber right downtown. As the odd woman out in Vermont with a bleached buzz cut, I can’t express enough how much I appreciate his confidence boosting services and grounded words of encouragement.
